Karlakattai is a seasoned medicinal wood that is turned into a specific shape and size then further treated with medicinal oils. There are 7 different types of Karlakattai’s with one exclusively for Women and one specifically designed by Aasaan for Karlakattai Yoga. We mainly use Kai Karalai for Men and Padi Karalai for Women. The shape of this Karlakattai is based on measuring device called ‘Padi’(Tamil). The maximum weight one should start with is the person’s body weight/8/3. The other factors to decide on the weight and shape of the Karlakattai are the person’s body structure and anatomy. Traditionally they are given to a student after being blessed by their Guru after analysing what the student requires.
This Karlakattai is approximately the length of the arm. The maximum weight one should start with is the person’s body weight /8/2.
